KAMI THE SLB EXPLORE PART 1

On the 3rd March 2017, our group SLB (sangat luar biasa), went trip to Pahang National Park, with the total of 26 persons include the lecturer.  We departed from college by bus at 12.00 a.m. It took about 8-10 hours to arrive the park. In bus, some of us were playing and some were sleeping. It is acceptable for us to sleep because the time was already 12.00 in the morning. Along the journey, we also stopped at a few rest places.

Around 11.30 a.m. we arrived at our accommodation and the motel workers came to welcome us. Next, the workers guide us to our motel and give the keys. As soon as we got the keys, we enter the rooms and started to unpack our bags. We rest for a few minutes before out for lunch. After finished our lunches, we gathered and get ready for the first activity. First activity started at jetty Kuala Tahan and one of the workers was responsible to take us to the jetty. We go there by drove four-wheel vehicle.

When arrive, we were given a briefing and two guider were introduced to us. The guiders were known as “Abang Mei” and “Abang Mok”. We were divided by 2 groups and each group was given one guider. My group was under “Abang Mok”. After a little bit of introduction, we were ordered to go to the each boat and ride it. The first activity was rapid shooting. It was really an enjoyable activity.

Rapid shooting is one of the best activities in this park. In a wooden boat, you are going to ride through seven (7) rapids along Sungai Tembeling. For our safety reason, we need to follow the boatman and our guider instructions. We also required to put on our life jacket throughout this activities. We were advisable not to bring along our electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital camera and others unless we put them in our dry bag. We all need to be preparing our physical and mental to get wet.

Along the rapid activity, we also stopped at Aborigine Settlement (Kg Orang Asli). This activity is one of the main attractions at Taman Negara. Many of us are keen to see how these groups of people are still living in remote area which is far from modernization. The settlements can be found along the trail and river. There are two ethnics of Orang Asli in Taman Negara which is Batek and Semokberi. In general, they are gentle folks with dark skin and tight curly hair who live nomadic lifestyle in this park.

During the visits, they will share on how to use their bamboo hunting blow pipe and making fire. They have their own language but the guider will help to translate. Orang Asli are friendly and know how to respect outsider and people like us. In return, we must do the same to them.  To take their photo, please ask for their permission. Around the evening, we were going back to the motel. At the motel, we took a break before dinner. We washed ourselves and having a little stroll along the places.

At 8.00 p.m., after dinner, once again we gathered at jetty Kuala Tahan to continue our night activity, Night Jungle Walk. We also need to take the boats because the place located across the river. As soon we arrived, we were given a briefing and start to explore the night. This activity was the best way for us to observe and discover the nocturnal creatures in Taman Negara. We need to bring our own torchlight, so that we could find the animals or insects along the trail. We need to be quiet when trekking along the trail, just to make sure the creatures did not scared. The journey continued for an hour. Our groups found several of floras and faunas. We learnt many new things at that night. The tour ended our activities that day.

For the next day, after done our breakfast, we gathered at the main place, jetty to start the last activity. We also need to take the boat to reach the last destination. As soon as we arrived, we were introduced to that place and start our walk. The last destination was Canopy Walk. This walk was the world’s longest canopy walkway which is 530 m long and 40 m above the ground level. This is a must do activity in this park and one of the most memorable memories for us to bring home. We could enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of flora and fauna along the walkway. This walkway was the main attractions for local and international tourists to visit Taman Negara.

At noon, we arrived at our accommodation and started to clean ourselves. We also started to pack our things to leave this park because it is the last day we were here. After lunch, we put our packaging and bags in the bus and thanks the motel’s worker for their satisfy services towards us in this 2 days. This Taman Negara was one of the places that people must visit and the activities were really interesting.
